Alternative Arthritis Treatment

A study recently published in the Annals of Internal Medicinehas found that 63% of people who visited a rheumatologist for osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia conditions also sought some form of "complementary and alternative medicine (CAM)." Chiropractic was not only the most sought after form of CAM for those patients, but it was also among those found to be most helpful for these conditions. 73% of patients who had tried chiropractic care found it to be helpful.

Although over-the-counter and prescription medications can be effective in relieving pain, a number of studies published in recent years demonstrate the harmful effects of using them long term.   If you find yourself or a loved one reaching for pain medication everyday, it is time to call your chiropractor.

In addition to chiropractic treatments, massage therapy has been found to be very effective for people who suffer from arthritis. The Archives of Internal Medicine has found that regular massages lead to less stiffness, decreased pain, and an increase in physical function in the knees.

At Watkins Family Chiropractic, we can develop a comprehensive treatment plan of chiropractic care and massage therapy to help alleviate the many symptoms of arthritis.
